Necklaces
How to choose a meaningful necklace
Short answer: choose the meaning first, the design second. A necklace you'll wear every day should represent something specific to you or the person you're giving it to - a feeling, a stone, an initial - rather than being chosen on looks alone.
Start with what you want it to say.
Every one of our necklace collections carries a different meaning, rather than starting with "which necklace looks nicest," it's worth starting with "what do I want this to remind me - or them - of." The right meaning tends to make the right design obvious.
Think about layering, not just a single piece.
Necklaces are one of the easiest pieces to build a collection with over time. Many of our customers start with a single pendant and add a second, shorter chain later, layering a meaning-led piece with something simpler like a dainty circle necklace. If this is a gift and you're not sure what they already own, a slightly shorter or longer length than their usual is a safe way to avoid doubling up.
Personalise it, if it's a gift.
An initial or birthstone turns a necklace from "a nice necklace" into something unmistakably theirs. It's one of the simplest ways to make a gift feel considered without needing to know their exact taste - you just need their birthday or their initial.
What to expect.
Every necklace is handcrafted to order in our York studio, in recycled sterling silver or solid 9ct gold. If you'd like a different chain length than standard, just pop a note at checkout - we're happy to adjust it.
