From childhood challenge to thriving jewellery business.

When I was a toddler

My Mum sat me down at the dining room table to make necklaces from buttons and shirring elastic. I was born with no fingers on one hand and went through a very determined phase of trying to do everything one handed, Mum saw making necklaces as a way to get me to use both hands, and it worked!

As I grew up, buttons were swapped for beads and shirring elastic for jewellers cord. I was hooked!

In 2017 - I sold a piece of jewellery to someone I didn't know

I’d been making silver jewellery for about 4 years, documenting what I was doing on a Facebook page. While on maternity leave, a colleague tagged me in a ‘post a piece of art you made every day for 7 days’ challenge. The piece I posted on day 7 sold… to someone I didn’t know… and that got me thinking!

Post maternity leave, I renewed my commitment to my craft, honing my skills and refining my style, alongside my day job. I enrolled in every weekend classes, joined online mentorship groups and began building a solid local following and customer base on social media.

Hannah Weston in John Lewis

in 2020 it was time to go full time

After a series of unfortunate events, my priorities shifted and I craved a big career change that embraced my organisational skills, eye for detail and passion for creativity. After 14 years of teaching I said goodbye to the classroom to run Hannah Weston Jewellery full-time.

The same year I was successful in securing two 'pop up' shops in John Lewis, York.

in 2025 Hannah welcomed her first employee

After years of wearing all the hats and doing all the things, it was time to get some more help. Hannah employed Laura, who studied Metalwork and Jewellery at Sheffield Hallam University.

Later that year, we were featured on Be Your Own Boss on ITV.

Hannah achieved the dream she never thought to dream when she was successful in applying to be on Holly Tucker's 'Be Your Own Boss'. Holly visited Hannahs studio to give her advice on scaling her business.
